Competition Rules and Formats
Competitions are held monthly and can be played on any of the 10 days notified.
2010-11 Competition Dates
These monthly competitions will all be Stableford format.
Only players with a CHIPS Golf Society or CONGU handicap can compete in the competitions. Should a member hold both a CHIPS Golf Society and a CONGU handicap, the Society handicap will be used for Society Competitions. 3 scorecards are required to be submitted for a handicap to be allocated if you do not already have a CHIPS Golf Society or CONGU handicap.
There are no "gimmes" in competition rounds - ball must be putted out on all holes.
Competition rounds can be played on any course. Rounds played on any course other than the designated course - currently Boringdon Park (yellow tees) - will be adjusted for comparative SSS (standard scratch score) for the course & tees used.
There will be prizes for the top 3 in each individual competition.
For the first eight months of the 2010-11 membership year (April to November inclusive):
- There will be an "overall" competition. The best 5 scores from the 8 possible competitions will count. The score used will be the difference from the fixed Competition Scratch Score (CSS) of 36 Stableford Points. This is a change from previous years when the competition scratch score varied each competition. There will be prizes for the top 4.
- There will also be an eclectic competition (best score for each hole). Only rounds actually played at Boringdon Park will count towards this competition. There will be prizes for the top 3.
- Nobody will be able to win a prize in both the overall & eclectic competitions. The higher of the 2 prizes will be awarded. The committee's decision will be final.
- The remaining 4 monthly competitions (December to March inclusive) will be stand alone events with prizes for the first 3. They will not form part of any overall or eclectic competition.
Society handicaps will also be adjusted against the fixed CSS of 36 Stableford Points. However, should the winner of an individual monthly competition score 36 points or less there will be a "general play" adjustment applied equal to the reduction in exact handicap that would have applied if he had scored 37 points.
And in case you haven't got the message!! -
Competition scorecards must be in the scorecard box at Plessey Semiconductors by midday on the Friday following the last day of the competition.
