St Mellion Corporate Members Day
On Tuesday 24th June St Mellion held their annual Corporate Members Day.
The X-Fab UK Ltd team of Colin Mitchell, Dave Horton, Lee West (who was originally only second reserve so never give up!) and me (Phil Osborne) arrived early to take full advantage of the coffee, bacon rolls and putting green. (The putting green was a mistake as it then took 3 holes to get the pace of the actual greens!)
The weather was fine and the day went well. There was also the rare sight of David Moon actually hitting a golf ball as he had been forced into participating in a 'beat the ex-pro' competition on the 11th hole.
The format was Texas Scramble and we had 12 pars & 6 birdies to finish with a net score of 12.2 under par - a score we thought was respectable but not going to threaten the prize table.
We were correct. After a very pleasant meal we discovered that we had won absolutely nothing. We thought that we had finished just out of the prizes as 1 shot less would have got us third - 2 shots would have won it.
There were the cries of 'if only' - we had missed 2 putts inside 8 feet but all the teams were probably saying the same thing. I had chipped in from off the green, Colin sunk a putt that would have rivalled the 'longest drive' competition (had there been one) and Lee also 'sunk a monster' so it all evens itself out.
2 days later the full result sheet arrived (Click here to view) and the 19 teams were separated by only 7.5 shots with us finishing equal 8th (mid table mediocrity).
Oh well - there's always next year!
